The Alu-Cab roof tent is one of the best hard-shell roof tents on the market. Made entirely out of aluminum, it withstands even the toughest loads and can be opened and closed in no time.
The tent is 2.30 m long, 1.40 m wide and weighs 78 kg. A comfortable interior height of 1.60 m, LED lights and USB plugs make this tent a comfortable place to sleep.
The new version with the angled and slightly rising top shell with the sides drawn in at the front area, is much more elegant than the previous version and cannot be compared with any other aluminum roof tent. The interaction between aluminum quintet checker plate and smooth aluminum sheet gives the roof tent additional attractiveness. Its current shape makes it more aerodynamic and offers less resistance to the wind. This improves driving behavior at high speeds and reduces wind noise and fuel consumption.
The roof, which is additionally reinforced by two integrated cross bars, can be used to transport loads, as a viewing platform or to install a solar system.
ADVANTAGES OF THE ALU-CAB ROOF TENT
The design of the Alu-Cab roof tent Expedition is not only a perfect fit to the Alu-Cab canopies, but is also the first choice for anyone who wants to leave their roof tent on the vehicle permanently. Aluminum is durable, corrosion-resistant and does not age due to UV light. In addition, aluminum is insensitive to temperature fluctuations and stone hits only lead to scratches or dents, but unlike with glas-fiber tents, will not make a hole in the tent shell. An aluminum roof tent is also the best choice for everyone, who would like to screw many things to their tent.
The attachment of brackets for headlights, high-lifts, shovels, antennas, tanks, solar systems, etc. is easy. Sportsman can easily transport kayaks, bicycles or skis on the roof. An additional storage box can also be mounted. Sleeping bags, pillows and bedding can of course be stored in the closed tent.
OPEN AND CLOSE
To open the tent, simply unlock the two rear locks, lift the end slightly and the tent will open by itself thanks to the built-in gas strouts.
The three entrances are equipped with mosquito nets, the rear one also has an additional cover to protect against sun and rain. This is kept open by two metal rods that can be quickly installed. The sides of the tent are build a little over the entrances. This enables you to open the zipper at the top for ventilation without rain getting in. The upper shell, which is a bit wider than the tent, offers additional protection against rain.
A circumferential elastic band pulls the tent fabric inwards when the tent is closed and prevents the tent fabric from getting stuck between the two shells or the gas pressure springs. Because these are attached outside, there are no restrictions on the mattress and no jamming of tent fabric or duvet cover when closing. Unlike in tents where the springs are build inside the tent, condensation from the gas pressure springs is no problem.
If necessary, the tent can be secured with one or two locks.
TENT FABRIC AND MATTRESS
Both the floor and the roof are equipped with closed-cell polyethylene foam. This offers good insulation against cold and heat. It increases comfort and at the same time reduces condensation in the tent. The roof is also covered with a multi-layer, quilted fabric.
The two-layer 400 gr/m² tent fabric is waterproof and UV-resistant. The Rip-Lock finish prevents it from tearing further after cuts. All seams are additionally sealed.
A 75mm thick, high-density foam mattress ensures pleasant sleeping comfort. The cover can be removed for washing thanks to a zip. On the roof there is a storage liner with several pockets for storing small items.
In 2019 the electrics in the tent were renewed. A new system of 9 LED lights provides more light. These can be conveniently operated with a switch near the bed. There are also an additional double 12V cigarette lighter and USB connections for charging your electronic devices.
ASSEMBLY OF TENT AND ACCESSORIES
The two outer longitudinal profiles under the tent are provided with C-rails on the outside. These are used for mounting the tent and can also be used to attach accessories. Two flat aluminum profiles with C-rails are attached to the upper shell of the tent. Alu-Cab roof racks or any other accessories can be attached to these. Commercially available M8 hexagon screws (DIN933) can be inserted into the Alu-Cab-specific C-rail profiles on the underside of the tent, and truss-head screws with a square set (DIN603) fit into the C-rails on the sides and on the roof. This makes it very easy to use, as no special retaining plates or slot nuts are required and, in conjunction with a lock nut, also very reliable.
Of course, you can aswell simply drill through the aluminum shell for the assembly of accessories or the tent itself. Something that is impossible or only possible to a very limited extent with a glas-fiber tent due to the risk of breakage and cracking. The mounting of accessories at the inside the roof is possible on the two cross struts.
